Terms of use

Last updated 21 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use the Waymarker app and website. Please read them together with the privacy policy.

1. Who we are

Waymarker is run by Christian, trading as HDLM studios in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). Contact: hdlmstudios@gmail.com.

2. The service

Waymarker is a map of mountain bike trails in the UK, with graded sections, gradient profiles, features, videos, rider condition reports and, with a Pro subscription, extra features such as offline areas, 3D flythroughs and ride recording. The app is free to download and use; some features need Pro.

3. Your account

You need to be 16 or over to create an account. Give us a real email address and keep access to it, because that is how you sign in. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete your account at any time (see the privacy policy).

4. Pro subscription

  • Pro is sold through Google Play. The price is shown in Google Play before you subscribe; at the time of writing it is £3.99 a month or £24.99 a year.
  • New subscribers may get a 7-day free trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it turns into a paid subscription. Google Play shows the exact date and time; to be safe, cancel at least a day before.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in Google Play (your subscriptions). You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy. This does not affect your legal rights.
  • We may change prices or what Pro includes. We will give you notice, and Google Play will tell you of a price change and, where it requires, ask you to agree before it applies to you.

5. What you post

You keep ownership of what you post (condition reports, feature pins and notes). You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, free licence to store it and show it to other riders in the service, and to use it to run and improve the service.

Post only things that are true, that you are allowed to share, and that are lawful. No abuse, spam, personal information about other people, or content that could put riders at risk. Other riders can flag content, and three flags hide an item. We can hide or remove content, and suspend or close accounts, that break these terms.

6. Trail information and riding safety

Mountain biking is dangerous. You ride at your own risk.

  • Trail data comes from OpenStreetMap and from riders. Grades, gradients, features, lengths and conditions are estimates and may be out of date, incomplete or wrong.
  • Conditions change: weather, trail work, fallen trees and closures. Check signs and the trail centre or land manager before you ride, and look at a trail before you ride it.
  • Ride within your ability and wear the right kit. A grade in the app is not a promise that a section suits you.
  • The app is not for navigation in an emergency. Do not rely on it to find your way, or on a phone signal to call for help.

7. Availability and offline data

We work to keep the service running but do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors. Offline areas are a copy made at the time you download them and can be out of date; update them while you have signal. We may change or withdraw features.

8. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit. Your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected, including that digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.

Subject to that, and as far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses that were not a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms, or for your use of trail information in a way these terms warn against, and our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the problem arose.

9. Open data and credits

Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). Contains Environment Agency information © Environment Agency and/or database right, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com. Maps and terrain © Mapbox. Videos stay on YouTube under the YouTube Terms of Service. The trail database we derive from OpenStreetMap is published under the ODbL on the data page. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by these providers.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and will tell you why where we can.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We will change the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app. If you carry on using the service after a change, you accept the new terms; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
